Rhysida, a well-known ransomware group, is known for its attacks on US hospitals, the University of West Scotland, and the Chilean Army. It was recently made known they obtained 1.3 million files for Insomniac Games. The files consist of budgets, roadmaps, and more information about their latest titles coming out to the public.
Rhysida announced the hack of their systems on December 12, stating they would auction the files for $2 million in Bitcoin. However, after Insomniac refused to pay the ransom they uploaded the files on Tuesday.
The hack is the latest one in the gaming industry, with footage of GTA IV being leaked to the public online last year and was considered the biggest gaming leak of all time.
Moving forward Sony is planning to release multiple Marvel-inspired titles. These consist of Spider-Man 3, Wolverine, and more based on Venom and the X-Men.
Insomniac and Marvel have a licensing deal worth $621 million stating they will develop and market the games by 2035.
Character art, internal emails, confidential documents and more were all leaked. Sony is currently investigating the breach and will have to act quickly in the future.
