Mayor Eric Adams and Commissioner Jessica Tisch along with the Department of Sanitation have recently announced and showcased the new system in New York aimed to aid in the snow season. The new system will help centralize deploying and tracking snow plows, salt spreads, and more across the boroughs.
Before this, the city was using technology consistently in 2015, which calls for a needed upgrade.
Heading into the snow season, New York is statistically at the highest headcount in 20 years. The city has invested roughly $500,000 into new trucks over the past two years.
Bladerunner 2.0 is the new system and aims to cover all areas with one central system and make sure all communities are covered.
Communities used to receive different levels of service however now every street within the five boroughs is on a plow and salt route.
The new system utilizes GPS data from their plows and spreaders, and New Yorkers will have the ability to check progress with PlowNYC during the snowy weather.
