The Government of India is planning to start a 'pilot' project of the D2M progress in 19 cities. According to trusted sources, the new advancements will hit the devices of Indian smartphone users by next year.
Direct-to-mobile means that a user can stream content straight to their phone without the internet. Having D2M not only allows users to stream content without having a SIM card, but they will also be able to receive alerts, safety messages, and more.
According to a worker within the project, they plan to release by next year with an "indigenously" developed set-up. It's believed that D2M will be especially helpful in education content to those who are in need and can't get a connection.
As of now, the Government is at a stage where they have to do city-wise pilot trials so the potential of the system can be determined.
Utilizing D2M won't only be helpful because a connection isn't needed, but it lowers the cost of sending data back and forth which in turn leads to improvements in network speeds.
